Belondrade Winery was founded by the Belondrade family, originally from France, who came to Spain with the intention of revolutionizing the Spanish market with the introduction of their white wine: Belondrade y Lurton. This company was founded in 1994 with the idea of bringing Burgundy techniques to the Verdejo grape from the municipality of La Seca in Valladolid. Thus began one of the most important wineries in our country, which now holds an organic certification.

Belondrade Winery: History

The dream of the founder, Didier Belondrade, of Bodegas Belondrade was to create a white wine that would be known as one of the best wines in Spain. In 1994, he began his journey by setting up in Nava del Rey, with a commitment to the terroir of the Castilian plateau and Verdejo. For the first time, in 1996, Belondrade y Lurton was released. Thanks to its excellent reception by consumers, this product managed to reach Japanese and American markets, further cementing its name among the best.

Three years later, the Belondrade project continued to grow, this time with the acquisition of its own vineyards. These vineyards would become known as the Quinta San Diego estate, where the first four plots were grouped. In the year 2000, a new wine arrived: Belondrade Quinta Clarisa, which marked a new turning point in the future of Belondrade Winery. Then came Belondrade Quinta Apolonia, a varietal but atypical vision that combines freshness and structure. The development of spontaneous fermentations was inevitable in the winery’s evolution, so in 2007, the first 100% spontaneous fermentation wine was presented.

From the beginning, the Belondrade family has practiced sustainable viticulture that helps to promote and preserve the biodiversity of the Quinta San Diego estate. In 2010, they obtained organic certification, making their interest in a more natural expression of La Seca’s terroir official. The Belondrade Foundation “Art and Wine” was created in 2015 as an initiative by the winery’s founder to bring the world of art and wine closer to society. Belondrade Winery continues to expand, and in 2016, they acquired two more plots to enhance the diversity and character that have brought them so far.

Belondrade Winery: Wines

Throughout the winery’s history, they have released three different wines that have helped the brand position itself as one of the best.

  • Belondrade y Lurton: A blend that reflects the diversity of the 23 plots. It is the flagship wine of Belondrade Winery and comes exclusively from the organic Quinta San Diego estate. It is the result of spontaneous and controlled alcoholic fermentation. The citrus character combined with a slightly bitter finish are signatures of Verdejo.

  • Belondrade Quinta Apolonia: Known for being the most varietal expression of the Quinta San Diego estate, it is the result of the first blend of the wine. It is a white wine from the winery’s youngest vineyards, with a percentage of the first barrel selections of Belondrade y Lurton added. It offers a savory entry with a long finish.

  • Belondrade Quinta Clarisa: Originates from a small plot of Tempranillo with sandy soils, harvested by hand all at once. It is made from the free-run juice after a one-day maceration. Its freshness and presence in the mouth frame it as a light red wine with a fruity nose and garnet color.
